Christmas is a wonderful time of year filled with family and friends, but the pressure of making each Christmas a great one can be anxiety-inducing.
As I reflect on my past Christmases, I struggle to remember what even occurred. I don’t really remember what I received or gave to other people.
Growing older has given me a better perspective on the holiday and how I would like to spend it.
I would like to focus on making Christmas more meaningful because each year I am made more aware of the time that is passing. Everyone is another year older and everyone who may have celebrated Christmas with you the previous year, may not be here to celebrate now.
As a Christian, it is also important to me to prioritize the original intent of Christmas and reflect on the significance of the day within my faith.
Making Christmas More Memorable
There are definitely things that can be done to associate stronger memories with Christmas and to bring more meaning to the holiday.
One way that people choose to do this is to give back or spend the day focusing on other people. If you have to work on this holiday, you can spend time with the customers who may not have their own families to spend the holiday with.
Another classic example of creating a more meaningful Christmas is to spend the day volunteering with the homeless or working with charities to give toys to those who wouldn’t normally receive them.
We all are aware of the expenses associated with Christmas. You can help your wallet and your family by filling up your day with other things to do so that you can relax on the gifts.
Gifts are made to be the focal point of Christmas, but there is such a large build-up and then the excitement ends directly after the gifts are opened.
By planning things to do on Christmas day, you are sure to have an exciting and fulfilling Christmas.
Simple Ways To Have A More Meaningful Christmas
Focus on Making Memories Rather Than Outdoing The Previous Year
A simple way to have a more meaningful Christmas is to spend your time making memories.
If you have a limited amount of time to spend with the people who have gathered to spend the holiday with you, you want to maximize the fun you get out of spending time.
You can try new activities or create fun games for all the members of your family to enjoy. These activities can be adjusted to entertain people of all ages.
Some activities that you can introduce into your Christmas are:
- Watch a Movie
- Make a Christmas Craft
- Learn a Titok Dance With Your Family
- Painting
- Start a lottery pool
- Game Night
- Go camping
These are a few things that you could try to spice up your Christmas. if you enjoy the process, then you can make the activity a tradition, if you don’t like the activity, you don’t have to do it next year.
Building a repertoire of things that your family enjoys doing with each other will increase the quality of the Christmas holiday and lighten the load on the person who chooses to host Christmas at their house.
Prioritizing making memories is a super easy way to make a more meaningful Christmas.

Simplify Your Christmas
Simplifying your Christmas season can help you keep track of the things that you would like to achieve and avoid being overwhelmed.
Some ways that you can simplify your Christmas are:
- Order your Christmas dinner
- Have a potluck dinner with your family
- Have everyone pick an activity for the family to do
- Spend the day volunteering
If you take the pressure off of yourself to make Christmas ‘fun’ for everyone, then you are much more likely to have a good time.
Simplifying Christmas can help lessen the possibility of you forgetting anything as well as give the guests a chance to relax.
You don’t want to pack your holidays with so many things that everyone will feel like they need a vacation after this one.
Make Gifts an Event Rather Than The Event
Gifts are often the focal point of Christmas; however, they don’t really contribute to you having a more meaningful Christmas, unless the gifts are meaningful. Trying to make every gift you give more meaningful than the last can strip the joy you get from giving gifts to others.
Gifts should be just one of the things that you choose to do on Christmas day. If you want to try something different, you can open gifts in the evening so that you can maintain the excitement all day. If you front-load all of the fun at the beginning of the day, the other activities may seem underwhelming.
My least favorite part of Christmas is the cleanup after everyone opens their gifts and having to carry all of the stuff to my room. It is always more of a hassle to find places for all of your new things to go and when you really go through the stuff, you realize that you may not have needed it anyway.
The gift-giving portion of Christmas can be fun, but realizing that it doesn’t always lead to a more meaningful Christmas, I would place emphasis on the things that would give you more fulfillment.

Digital Christmas Lists
I don’t know if you have already implemented digital gift lists into your life, but if you haven’t, you need to do so…immediately.
I can not express enough to you the benefits of having a digital Christmas list. You gain all of the satisfaction of knowing what to get your loved ones, while still having the option of choosing what to buy for them.
If your loved ones can create a list and include links to the things that they want, you can simply follow the link and pay with a card.
It really can be that simple, no more waiting in long lines along with the other procrastinators to buy gifts that you think your family might like. Do yourself and your family a favor and start creating digital Christmas list.
You can even have your family create Amazon lists and send you the link to it in a group chat.
Digital Christmas lists lead to a more meaningful Christmas because you can dedicate your time to the things that your family would actually enjoy. It’s a win-win situation. You get your loved ones exactly what they want and you don’t need to worry about whether your gift will be appreciated.
To get started with your digital Christmas list, you can ask for things like:
Do a “Year In Review” with your family
A simple activity that you can do to bond with your family during this time of year is a “year in review”. This is an opportunity for you and your family to go over the year that you all have had and discuss the high and low points.
I don’t know how often families take the time to do things like this, but this activity can lead to a more meaningful Christmas because you get the chance to discuss potential hardships and successes with your family.
A lot can happen in a year and sharing these things with your family can help you grow closer and grow together.
Learning everyone’s priorities and the things that they care about can help you be a better support to the people you care about.
Growing closer to your family definitely can result in a more meaningful Christmas.
Conclusion
Having a more meaningful Christmas can make the season more memorable and can take the stress off of the host to please everyone. Focusing on what is important to you and your family will guarantee that y’all have a great time and enjoy each other’s company.
A more meaningful Christmas can benefit everyone and I hope that it is something that every family will get to experience.
