This article is about starting from zero.
People may shy away from their passions or a dream that they once had because of the possibility of failure. The truth is that the reality of starting from zero can be daunting.
If your overthinking has been a hindrance to you starting your journey, you are not alone.
There are many unknowns and at the beginning, you are carried strictly by the faith you have in yourself. Only brave people can look at no results for their hard work and dare to keep going.
No one can guarantee an easy journey, but starting from zero will surely teach you many lessons. In order to set yourself up for success, there are several things that you should consider at the beginning of the greatest life change you will ever make.
This article is about starting from zero.
Starting from Zero
Unlimited Potential
The negative Nancy in your life would see zero as meaning that you have made no progress. The opposite of this would be to recognize the lack of limitations you face when you begin at zero.
You have many options, strategies, and possibilities you can use to move the needle. Zero is a time of testing with lower stakes.
You have given yourself the opportunity to really build something great by beginning a new journey.
I cannot overstate to you the fear associated with starting something new. For example, I would like to show you my current figures in Youtube Studio. As you can see, there is nobody and I mean nobody checking out my page….yet.

I posted my first official Youtube video on May 14th, 2023. The video was recorded on April 27th, with the initial video that I planned to post being recorded on March 27th. Now, I can’t tell you why it took so long, but it did.
Nevertheless, the video is now on the internet. This is the action that I have chosen in order to show up for myself. It was not easy to get to this point, but here I am and I know that I have far to go.
This number will not stay at zero and I know that t is only a matter of time. I recognize the potential that a monumental step like this can lead to and I am excited for the ride.
You’ll never know where you’ll go if you don’t decide to take the first step. Good luck my people!
Have Realistic Expectations
I think a part of the success that really surprises people is the hard work required. It is almost as if the people that we see succeeding are really good at what they do.
Media would like us to believe that people’s success is predetermined, thus we are limited by our circumstances. I would be remiss to ignore the prejudices and inequity that exist in the world that we live in today. However, I would argue that in 2023, we have more opportunities to succeed than the people with similar circumstances to us had even 20 years ago.
Everyone will face challenges and need to solve problems along the way, but the people who keep going are consistently rewarded. We have no control over what our success may look like, how long it will take, or who will be involved. We can only control the effort and time that we dedicate to our improvement.
The word “realistic” will mean something to everyone, but if you are starting from zero and have no guide to compare yourself to, then you can set the pace on your own terms.
It is important to set measurable and actionable goals that will keep you motivated and challenge you to be better.

Focus on What You Can Do
We set our terms and definitions of what success is or what it looks like based on other people. You are unique in this world and the only person worth comparing yourself to.
You can compare yourself to how you were last week, last month, or last year and gain more information than if you compared yourself to the top figure in your field.
Resourcefulness is a great skill to have when you are building anything. When you can figure out how to make something work in unideal circumstances, you build resilience and set yourself apart.
By not worrying about all of the things that are outside of your control, you can focus more energy on what you are good at. Having a strong foundation on what you contribute to the world and bring to the table will give you a sense of confidence as you go out into the world.
It’s Not Going to Be Perfect
Your journey is not going to be perfect. More specifically, it is probably not going to go the way that you initially planned either.
You may even find it difficult to determine what your perfect journey may look like. Either way, it is unreasonable to expect perfection from yourself, especially if you are starting from zero.
You shouldn’t view mistakes as something to avoid. The sooner that you make them, the more confidence you will have in recovering from them and finding solutions.
If you expect perfection from yourself, you will always fall short. If you expect excellence, you will perform well in many different circumstances.
Make Mistakes and Learn A lot
Someone who has not tried to perform a task before is likely to make many mistakes. It is a part of the learning process.
How you deal with these mistakes carries more weight than your capacity to avoid them.
If you are building a business, you must deal with the ebbs and flows of the market. There are seasons when it is slow and seasons when everything seems easy.

Starting at zero is not only an opportunity for unlimited growth but also a time for unlimited learning.
Know that Hard Work Lies Ahead
One part that cannot be understated is the hard work required to succeed. It takes time, skill, and persistence to get lasting results. It is important to build a solid foundation and not cut corners to “expedite” the time.
How hard you work is one of the main factors that you can control. The content that you study and the time you dedicate to improving correlates to the quality of work you put out.
If you do choose to work hard at the beginning, you will enjoy the fruits of your labor beforehand. Delayed gratification is a strong motivator and can help you get through the beginning when it gets difficult.
These are the few things that you should remember when you find yourself starting from zero. There is a certain charm about finding yourself starting from zero. It gets easier every time you do it and you usually do not regret pushing through the struggle of the beginning.
