Congratulations! You have officially made it to fall officially, and you have made it through the first three quarters of your year. Now we can get to the good stuff.
Sorry other seasons, but we all know deep down that fall is superior.
While we are excited about the vibes and the calm that comes with fall, we can’t enjoy it to the fullest extent if we enter fall with the baggage of spring and summer.
Things have changed…
You may have begun the year extra-organized and planned everything to the smallest detail and now, don’t even know where you last put your planner.
Those resolutions that you made 9+ months ago may or may not have gone out of the window. Never mind the goals that you set that are currently sitting on the vision board, which is currently hidden in your closet.
We will not go out like this!
The year is not over yet, and there are plenty of things that we can do to finish strong by conducting a fall reset.
Bring on the vibes!

Hold on…What is a Fall Reset?
A fall reset or a third-quarter reset is a check-in that you do with yourself after the summer season has come to a close. You may have traveled, frequented the beach, gardened, etc., or any of the other things that you do to take advantage of the lovely weather and are looking to restore order back into your life.
The summer may have left your house and your brain in utter chaos, trying to process what just happened in the last three months.
This is where a fall reset routine comes in handy.
You can reflect and appreciate the things you did during the summer, whilst winding down and preparing for the slower, more relaxed season that is fall.
There may still be some things that you want to do before the end of the year and you want to gain back control of your life. So a good refresh in the fall season can get you ready for the excitement to come in the future months.
How to Conduct a Fall Reset
Break Out The Duster, It’s Time To Clean!
Clean Up
For the things that you plan to keep, you may consider new ways of organizing or resetting your space for the season ahead.
Maybe your garage looks like a hot mess because of all the remnants of activities that you and your family did throughout the summer.
While you are cleaning, you can make donations or sell piles, so that your stuff can live second lives elsewhere.
Summer can be a whirlwind and you may not have gotten the chance to clean as deeply as you would have liked. With the children back in school, your time has just opened back up!
By resetting your space, you give your mind the capacity to focus on other things more effectively.

Clean out
A great way to welcome any new season is to get rid of clutter.
Whether it is in your mind or on your floor, it is taking up valuable real estate. We have to figure out how we are going to finish strong so we can’t afford to have things that we do not need or use.
Getting rid of old things will make space for the things that you are planning to acquire in the coming seasons.
Fall is the season of Black Friday and Turkey, so we have got to make room!
Or…maybe you want to try living a minimalist fall. What a concept!
It does not matter what new journey you decide to embark on, but clearing out the old is surely a way to bring in the season!
Reflections
As an essential part of any good reset, we must make room for reflection
It is good to take time to assess how this year has gone for you. You might look back and think of the trials that this year has put you through as well as the victories.
Some questions that you can ask yourself are:
- How am I different now than I was at the beginning of the year?
- Which season has treated me the best this year?
- 3 highs of this year.
- 3 lows of this year?
- Where have I grown the most?
- What can I accomplish with the time that I have left in the year?
- How will I plan for the rest of the year?
By breaking down your reset routine into seasons, there are natural time periods within a year. You can easily associate memories with what the trees looked like outside or what was on sale at the grocery store.
These natural patterns will give you a different perspective on time, which can help you determine your progress.
The questions above make great journal prompts, but you don’t have to do that either.
Just reflecting in your mind on how you feel this year went for you can be beneficial.
You may be content with the way that the year has gone and that is awesome! If you decide that you aren’t content, you still have time to make the necessary changes.
Conducting a fall reset can put you back on the path that you planned for and will give you control back over your year.

New Plans
While fall may be a slower time of year than summer, it doesn’t have to be boring!
This is a time to spend with your loved ones and to pamper yourself. If you wondered if there were any changes you wanted to make, a fall reset will happily reveal them to you.
Whether your plans are to restart your lessons or renew your gym subscription, now is as good of a time as ever to start again!
You have ~12 more weeks to kick this year into high gear!
You have hopefully learned the lessons that came earlier in the year and you don’t have to wait until January to apply them.
A fall reset will help you take full advantage of the season and make more moves toward having a successful year.
Goals
Remember this word? Yeah, you may not have thought about it since early January, but that doesn’t mean that they are invalid.
Fall is a great time to assess your goals and figure out where you stand. If you met the goals that you set earlier this year, that is great! You can also see where and when you have fallen off of the things that you said you were going to do.
If you have new goals that you want to meet before the end of this year, you are free to set them right now. Doing the things to challenge yourself will make you feel more accomplished at the end of the year and fuel the spirit that you’ve been developing throughout the year as well.

Finances
This just so happens to be my favorite part, but it is also extremely important to keep in mind.
This season is one of the spendiest seasons and if you haven’t begun already, you may want to begin preparation.
You can evaluate and restructure the budget that you created to see if it has worked or if it still fits your current circumstances.
You might consider other metrics such as your investments to see how they did over the year.
Seeing if you are on track with what you said at the beginning of the year is also beneficial to your overall finances. By evaluating where you can improve now, you can adjust so that you meet your goals by the end of the year.
If you have exceeded the financial goals that you set for this year, you may have room to celebrate!
I know that I check my net worth quite frequently and seeing it grow from quarter to quarter has been extremely motivating for me.
A fall reset can get your finances back in order!
Conclusion
There are many benefits to be gained from doing a fall reset.
It can be easy to lose track of your year and find that time is flying by quickly. Taking the opportunity to reflect will help you remember the little things and make you feel more fulfilled about your year.

The year isn’t over yet and it is too soon to draw any conclusions, so you still have time to move the needle in your favor. Setting up 2024 to be a strong year, will only benefit you in the future!
