What to do When You’ve got Too Much to Do, Not Enough Time
There are periods in our lives when it seems as if we keep hitting a wall with time. Somehow, we can never finish what we need to do before the sun sets and our relationships languish.
Time is something that we cannot get back and it is up to us to determine how we use it. To use your time effectively, you need to optimize what it is that you are trying to accomplish.
If you find that you don’t have enough time in a day, you should reevaluate how you spend it. When you find the inefficiencies in how you spend your time, you can divert your focus to what matters to you thus, making you more fulfilled.
This article is all about having too much to do and not enough time.
Too Much To Do, Not Enough Time
Spend a Week Tracking Where You Spend Your Time
A great exercise to figure out where your time is going is to begin tracking your time. This exercise is not particularly fun because you become more aware of when you are spending your time ineffectively.
The quote, “What gets measured, gets managed” is used a lot in conversations surrounding business. This quote is also applicable in the sense of measuring your time.
The main way to manage your time more effectively is to understand how you are spending it.
It is not fun to take responsibility for the endless hours that you wasted scrolling through TikTok.
Having this awareness does give you your power back. When you become aware of how you spend your time, you learn how much time you really have at your disposal.
You gain the power to choose how you spend your time and learn when to stop.
Prioritize
Prioritizing your time is extremely important. If you do not decide where your time will be spent, circumstances will decide it for you.
When you don’t set priorities your time can be distributed haphazardly. You may find that you end up accomplishing nothing, or that the things you do accomplish turn out very mediocre.
When you have a direction that you would like to go, your actions follow it. You have to set the standards for how and where you spend your time because it is a finite resource.
You have to ensure that your own needs are met and delegate time toward those things.
Block Out the Noise
Time management can become the nightmare of the people pleaser. The expectations of others can weigh down your ability to focus and see tasks through until the end.
It is good to be flexible, but you have to set boundaries for what you will dedicate your time to.
You will never be able to please everyone, so you would be better off determining what it is that you want.
This would require you to improve at saying “no” and meaning it. When you set the precedent that you will accommodate others at your own expense, they will come to expect it.
After you determine your priorities, you will need to be consistent in how you enforce your boundaries. Tasks that don’t serve you will need to be cut off.
You will spread yourself too thin if you do not block out the noise and cut out the things that are not priorities to you.

Delegate Tasks
Seeking help is not a bad thing. If you are overcompensating for someone else’s lack, then that is worth a conversation.
At first, delegating tasks may be difficult because others may not have the same passion or expertise as you, but delegating is a very productive thing to do.
To have a healthy relationship with associates, friends, or work you won’t be able to do everything by yourself.
Delegating tasks also frees up time. You would be surprised at the things you can delegate to other people.
Many people find it difficult to ask for help, but they would find a great sense of relief by doing it.
If you give yourself the gift of asking for help and relying on others to do their part, you’ll find that you are able to get much more done and do it efficiently.
As you get more comfortable relying on others and getting your time sack, you can refine your methods to something that works much better for you.
You Have Got to Make Time, You Won’t Find it
Those people who seem to have the time to accomplish a lot are only able to because they focus on only their priorities.
These people have figured out how to increase their output on the things that they prioritize therefore, they are able to get more done.
Time is interesting because the amount available is the same consistently, but life circumstances distort it.
Many people who say that they are busy still find time to do the things that they prioritize. Whether that be spending time with family, working long hours, or scrolling on their phones.
If your priorities are not aligned with your goals, you won’t reach them. At least, not in an efficient manner.

The issue is more related to time management rather than there not being enough time to complete tasks.
You really have to be honest with yourself to see if you are having trouble managing your time or if you simply have too many things on your plate. Each problem isn’t sustainable if you want to reach your goals.
As you learn and experiment, you naturally find methods that work better for you.
If you are seeing the results that you want to see, maybe now is a good time to consider some changes.
If spending your time working towards certain goals is more detrimental than good to you, it may be time to reconsider your goals.
Don’t Get Overwhelmed
The key to being able to do more is to not get overwhelmed. If you do get overwhelmed, it isn’t a state that you would want to stay in for a long period of time. Being overwhelmed slows you down tremendously.
When you are overwhelmed it is hard to come up with any solution and it prolongs the process.
Ways that you can prevent being overwhelmed are by removing things from your plate, regaining your focus, and focusing on only a few things.
A major part of time management is maintaining focus. If you can’t focus, tasks will take much longer than necessary and you may be discouraged from continuing.
When you have only a few things to focus on, you can spend more time on each task and increase the quality of work done. As you hone your craft, the tasks will take you less time to do.
Being focused requires you to have a clear vision of what’s important and what can be left behind. Successful people do not have to be good at every aspect of the things that they do.
When you pick a field and specialize, you are able to add a ton more value than if you had a surface-level understanding of everything.
Not being overwhelmed allows for your attention to be directed in specific places which can give you better results.

Time management is a skill and it requires practice to really find the benefits in it. You have to manage your time to work on what is important to you.
By working on time management, you learn where you can provide the most value and impact.
We should focus on what we choose to do with our time so that we can avoid the issue of not having enough of it.
